Nelly Korda collects Sixth Win in Seven Starts With Victory at Mizuho Americas Open Using Qi10 Max Driver and TP5x

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May. 19, 2024) – The Nelly Korda train just keeps on going as she collected her sixth win in seven starts with a win at Liberty National GC in the Mizuho Americas Open and becomes just the fourth player to win six times or more in a season on the LPGA.

The current World No.1 closed with a 65 and a 71 over the weekend to win by one at 14 under and extend her lead in the Race to CME Global Season.

Nelly switched to the Qi10 Max driver and TP5X golf ball at the start of 2024 and is having her best season ever with record wins including the year’s first major – the Chevron Championship.

“The reason why I picked the Qi10 Max driver is the look of it compared to the other models. When I put it down and look at it I feel like I can hit any shot I want with the subtle blue face and silver topline. Once I put the Qi10 Max down and teed it up, I feel like I could hit any shot I wanted to.”

WHY KORDA PLAYS TP5x GOLF BALL

“Nelly was looking to bring the spin down, especially on her driver, so we did some testing in September,” said TaylorMade Senior Tour Manager Ressa. “We saw the benefits of TP5x in her driver and irons bringing the spin down a couple hundred RPMs. Then, around the greens, her launch on chips was a little bit lower and she generated more spin around the greens with TP5x than TP5. She produced a lot more check in a preferred trajectory coming off of the TP5x versus the TP5. She’s been happy with the ball ever since.”

WHY KORDA PLAYS P·770 P·7MC COMBO SET

Korda has played a P·770 and P·7MC combo set since joining Team TaylorMade at the beginning of the 2023 season going with a P·770 5-iron and P·7MC in 6-PW. Korda chose P·770 because of the height and spin it produces and P·7MC for more workability.

In initial testing with her long irons (5-6), Nelly aimed to add height to hold greens from distances of 180-200 yards. Her P·770 5-iron seamlessly answered this requirement, providing an additional 15-feet in height and delivering perfect carry distances. The pairing with P·7MC irons delivered Nelly tighter dispersion and precise distance control. For the tournament, Korda hit 79% of greens in regulation.

A crucial change to Korda’s irons came at the 2023 LPGA Drive On Championship in Phoenix when our TaylorMade tour reps hard-stepped Korda’s irons to minimize the draw and stiffen them slightly. Since the change, Nelly has won six times worldwide.
